Miniature felines are well known for their constant seeking of attention.  A cat will choose the person who is likely to grant her the most affection.  These pets adore being petted, and held in our arms. However, there are cases when changes in behavior occur and the cat might not allow anyone to touch it.

An explanation for this could be a source of pain. Feline arthritis is a common disease which affects the joints, resulting in inflammation and stiffness of the limbs.

Symptoms of illness include weight gaining, reluctance when it comes to jumping or climbing stairs and constant tiredness. It is recommended to make a veterinarian appointment if these signs last for more than a fortnight. Physical examination and an X-ray will determine if the cat is suffering from arthritis.

If the results are positive, owners will be advised by the vet on what type of treatment is most suitable. One of the available medication options is Cosequin. This supplement is an Over-the-Counter product which means that one does not need a prescription in order to buy it from pharmacies. The form of treatment is through sprinkle capsules which can be administrated along with wet or moist food. The unique mix of cartilage supporting compounds, make the product effective and reliable. It sustains healthy joints as well as providing pain relief.

When needed, veterinarians can prescribe other medication such as Metacam.  This is one of the safest anti-inflammatory drugs to use with cats. It cannot be purchased by pet-owners unless they are advised to do so by the vet. The dosage recommended in each case can either be administrated in the cat’s mouth after a meal or mixed with food. The product is available in 3ml or 15ml bottles. In contrast to other treatments, the side effects are reduced as the kidneys and gut lining are less affected than typical arthritis pet medicine.

Both medication treatments are available for purchase at VioVet. It is not recommended to administrate meds to pets unless instructed to do so by specialists.

Apart from medicine, maintaining an ideal weight and having physical exercise is important for the feline. Lighter weight will relieve pressure on joints and ease pain. Exercise, when it is not causing sufferance, brings back mobility and reduces stiffness of the affected limbs.

It’s good to be home again but since I was gone 11 days, I got tonnes of laundry to do. What is not helping is the weather that has suddenly turned on me. When I was gone, Azwaj told me that it hardly rained but now it seems to rain everyday. Oh well, since laundry is out of the picture for now, I reckon I unpacked my bags and check out my Singapore purchases or play with the kitties before heading out for dinner. Oh I also found my old yoga dvd so I might check that out too.. lol! Maybe the kitties can do yoga with me too..

It’s not easy being a cat person. I think if both me and Azwaj don’t harden our heart each time we go out for dinner, for example, we would most likely add one new cat each day. I mean there are so many stray cats that are in need of homes and some of them are very cute and good looking and they seriously can tug that heartstring. Gianto for instance was only about 2mths when we brought him home that fateful night and now we can’t imagine a life without him.

That being said, being a cat owner also means you are sharing with your home with a pet that needs that need to sharpen their claws and having nine cats at the moment literally means they own the house. We have a mini sort of a cat tree in our household but the kitties still scratch on our furniture especially the sofa. Perhaps if we got a bigger one or perhaps more than one,  that might eradicate the problem but one can never know with cats right?

For instance, Awan and Vivi immediately head to the cat tree we now have the moment they are out from the kitty room while Smokey and Jaybol head to the sofa to do their scratch. We thought of installing one huge one in the kitty room but there’s just no more room in there to install anything else. After all, we have the kitties bunk bed, hammock, toys and litter bin in there and with nine cats it can get awfully cramp.

Anyhow, I’m sure we’ll figure something out. We’ve been living with cats our whole life and with cat tree or not, life is good

Gianto loves people and the moment either me and Azwaj sit ourselves on the sofa, he will be the first to jump on our lap and greet us. He especially loves it if we decide to lie on the sofa as this only means he can treat us like a new york strip highway and literally walk on us as he purrs and try to find a comfortable position to park himself. I wish I had a video or a picture of him doing that but alas I am in Singapore currently and does not have access to those pictures right now. Oh well.. another post perhaps

Daddy has lots and lots of guitars so one day while he was playing his Fender or was it another make (I not sure) I went up to him and meow him to play a tune for me.. I was so happy when he obliged.. lol.. However he sang me lullaby so you can see from this picture, I am becoming very sleepy.. oh daddy!
